Job Overview:
The Wildlife Sanctuary Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of a wildlife sanctuary. They are responsible for ensuring the well-being, care, and management of animals in the sanctuary, as well as maintaining a safe and conducive environment for both animals and staff. The Wildlife Sanctuary Manager must possess a deep understanding of veterinary medicine, animal health management, and conservation practices.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Oversee the overall management and operations of the wildlife sanctuary.
2. Develop and implement animal care programs, ensuring the well-being and health of all animals.
3. Coordinate with veterinary staff to provide proper medical care, vaccinations, and treatment for animals.
4. Monitor animal behavior, identifying any signs of distress, illness, or injury, and implementing appropriate protocols.
5. Establish and maintain animal tracking and identification systems for accurate record-keeping.
6. Collaborate with staff to develop and execute appropriate enrichment programs to enhance animals' mental and physical well-being.
7. Manage and supervise sanctuary staff, providing training, guidance, and support as needed.
8. Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations regarding animal welfare, licensing, and permits.
9. Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations, partners, and stakeholders in the wildlife conservation community.
10. Develop and manage budgets, ensuring proper allocation of resources for animal care, maintenance, and facility improvements.
11. Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of sanctuary facilities, including enclosures, habitats, and infrastructure.
12. Conduct regular inspections of animal enclosures, habitats, and facilities to ensure safety, cleanliness, and compliance with regulations.
13. Coordinate and participate in rescue, rehabilitation, and release programs for injured or orphaned wildlife.
14. Stay updated on the latest research, trends, and advancements in wildlife conservation, veterinary medicine, and animal health management.
15. Prepare reports, presentations, and other relevant documentation as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Wildlife Biology, or a related field.
2. Proven experience in managing a wildlife sanctuary, animal rehabilitation center, or similar facility.
3. Sound knowledge of veterinary medicine, animal health management, and wildlife conservation practices.
4. Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team.
5. Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with exceptional attention to detail.
6. Proficient in identifying and responding to animal behavior cues and health indicators.
7. Comprehensive understanding of local, state, and federal regulations related to wildlife conservation and animal welfare.
